LA Boxing Featured In The News

CHICAGO RIDGE, Ill. (FOX 32 News) -
Men and women are learning a new way to stay fit. LA Boxing in Chicago Ridge has a hugely popular new option for people looking to keep healthy in a more engaging way.

If you need a little push they have you covered. Compared to traditional gyms, LA Boxing has more of a family atmosphere and instructors that are attuned to that attitude.

“This is the best workout I’ve ever had,” gym manager Vince Prieto said.

The gym offers hour-long classes and holds over 40 classes a week. You can burn from 700 to 1,000 calories in one hour. What’s more, the ratio of women to men at this location is 70-to-30.

One frequent boxer said she took up boxing because she wanted to keep up with her two kids and maybe even lose some weight in the process. But she gets bored on a treadmill or stair-stepper, so she decided to try something fun at LA Boxing.

LA Boxing Laces Up for Major Expansion Bout in Orange County, CA

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (August 06, 2012) – LA Boxing®, the world’s largest boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts (MMA) fitness franchise, inked a franchise agreement with local Orange County resident, Mike Lindsay, to open the growing fitness franchise’s ninth gym in Orange County, the company announced today.

“I first walked into LA Boxing as a gym member looking for a new fitness challenge. I have always been fitness minded and involved in athletics, so LA Boxing was a new, exciting workout for me,” Lindsay said, who has been a private tennis coach for more than 15 years in Orange County. “Once I was there, I was able to see a great system in place—I was inspired by the concept and saw a place where people can have an exciting gym experience. I knew that it was something I wanted to be involved in and began pursuing the franchise opportunity.”

The new agreement is part of a larger expansion plan by the brand, which plans to bring upwards of 10 additional locations to the Orange County area by 2014. With a strong presence in the market, the company has existing locations in Aliso Viejo, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Huntington Beach, Lake Forest, Long Beach, Orange, Rancho Santa Margarita, and Yorba Linda.

“Based in Santa Ana, we see firsthand that alternatives to large, impersonal fitness centers are in high demand throughout Orange County. Orange County is one the most fitness-conscious places in the world, and expanding our presence throughout our home market seems like the ideal next step for our brand,” said Philip Jacobs, LA Boxing Director of Franchise Development.

LA Boxing focuses on fun, efficient and effective group boxing workouts and intense one-on-one personal training in a clean, welcoming and friendly environment, taught by instructors with actual fighting experience. Unlike individual workouts at most gyms, LA Boxing’s group classes are filled with a mix of all fitness levels and, although intense in nature, members are encouraged to workout at their own pace. While gaining intangible growth in self-confidence and determination, members have the ability to burn up to 1,000 calories in hour-long classes.

The bright colors, clean environment, and well-organized layout break down the conventional image of a boxing gym. Each LA Boxing is outfitted with a designated area for rows of heavy punching bags, speed bags, a boxing ring, an MMA area, and cardio and strength equipment. LA Boxing has thoroughly researched and tested all components of its concept—location and layout, equipment mix, marketing plans, staff responsibilities, and class schedules, among others.

With nearly 75 locations open nationwide and another 50 in the development pipeline, expansion throughout California is part of the company’s strategic franchise expansion plan which calls for more than 220 locations to open nationwide by 2015. The gyms will be concentrated in most major U.S. cities including Chicago, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Seattle, among others.

5 Tips For NOT Gaining Weight During the Holidays

The holiday season doesn’t represent one day of overeating. It’s the period that begins around Thanksgiving and extends through the new year where there’s more alcohol, snacks, finger foods and appetizers, which are typically very high in calories.

A big part of enjoying the holidays is bonding with friends, family, coworkers, etc. around a table of food –eating, drinking and being merry. For this reason, the social aspect and family traditions can make it very difficult to avoid overindulging. If you want to still have fun and eat what you want, without paying the price of gaining weight and feeling uncomfortable – follow these 5 tips:

  1. Eat what you want, just eat less of it. At parties, grab a small plate and arrange a few selections of your favorite things on the plate. Eat slowly, enjoy, and then get rid of the empty plate and grab yourself a beverage to cleanse your palette.  The plate helps you see how much you are eating as opposed to grazing all evening.
  2. Drink a lot of water. Not only does drinking water help prevent hangovers, it also makes you feel fuller and lessens food cravings. Try alternating one alcoholic drink with one glass of water.
  3. Eat to fuel your body, and workout to stay healthy – don’t workout to eat. Many people think they need to exercise an extra 20 minutes because they ate a slice of pie, but by connecting food with exercise, you will miss the whole point. Food is fuel. Exercise keeps you fit and strong. A good workout routine is even more crucial during the holidays by helping you sleep, aiding digestion and reducing stress. Commit to exercise now – you will benefit from feeling and looking great while most people wait until January.
  4. Divert your attention. Holiday celebrating goes beyond just food. Focus on enjoying the people in the room and having great conversations and dancing.
  5. Start today. Be firm with yourself and don’t make excuses. There are many things in life we can’t control, but you do have the power to get in shape. Start today.

The LA Boxing Workout is an ultra calorie burning, complete workout experience that incorporates cardio, strength training, toning and techniques that mimic real fighting. Group classes are taught by professional fighters and can burn 800-1,000 calories in one hour.
