LA Boxing® Knocks Out Franchise Agreement in Brooklyn

Longtime Friends and Business Partners to Open Brooklyn’s First LA Boxing Gym; Company Plans Call for More Than 25 Additional Locations to Open Throughout the Five Boroughs

BROOKLYN (March 30, 2012) – LA Boxing®, the world’s largest boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts (MMA) fitness franchise, announced today that it has signed a franchise agreement with entrepreneurs Dmitry Skvirskiy and Alex Maftsir to open the first LA Boxing gym in Brooklyn.

Slated to open in fall 2012, the new LA Boxing will be the first of five locations to open in the Brooklyn market. The company plans also call for more than 25 additional locations to open throughout the five boroughs within the next 18 to 24 months.

“LA Boxing is the perfect fit for our lifestyle and professional goals,” Skvirskiy said. “We’ve been huge fans of boxing for years and were looking for a way to turn our passion into a business. When the opportunity to become entrepreneurs with LA Boxing presented itself, we knew we had found the perfect fit.”

Longtime friends and Information Technology (IT) specialists, Skvirskiy and Maftsir decided to open LA Boxing in the Brooklyn after recognizing a void in the neighborhood for such a specialized, high-intensity fitness option. Since the LA Boxing business model does not require the owner to be on site full-time, the franchise opportunity allows them the ability to become small business owners without sacrificing their professional careers.

“LA Boxing gives us the opportunity to pursue what we love, with the resources and guidance we need to help us reach our goals,” Maftsir added. “We’re able to fill a void in the Brooklyn area by providing a clean and comfortable atmosphere where members can get a great workout, while also gaining self-confidence.”

LA Boxing focuses on fun, efficient and effective group boxing workouts and intense one-on-one personal training in a clean, welcoming and friendly environment, taught by instructors with actual fighting experience. Unlike individual workouts at most gyms, LA Boxing’s group classes are filled with a mix of all fitness levels and, although intense in nature, members are encouraged to workout at their own pace. While gaining intangible growth in self-confidence and determination, members have the ability to burn up to 1,000 calories in hour-long classes.

The bright colors, clean environment, and well-organized layout break down the conventional image of a boxing gym. Each LA Boxing is outfitted with a designated area for rows of heavy punching bags, speed bags, a boxing ring, an MMA area, and cardio and strength equipment. LA Boxing has thoroughly researched and tested all components of its concept—location and layout, equipment mix, marketing plans, staff responsibilities, and class schedules, among others.

“We’re looking to grow throughout Brooklyn with franchisees like Alex and Dmitry who are business savvy and fitness-minded,” said Philip Jacobs, LA Boxing Director of Franchise Development, adding that there is a high demand throughout the market for alternatives to large, impersonal fitness centers. “We have found that local consumers are increasingly interested in fitness concepts like LA Boxing that offer an unconventional way to stay in shape and break from their typical routine.”

With nearly 75 locations open nationwide and another 50 in the development pipeline, expansion throughout Philadelphia is part of the company’s strategic franchise expansion plan which calls for more than 220 locations to open nationwide by 2015. The gyms will be concentrated in most major U.S. cities including Brooklyn, Chicago, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Seattle, among others.

Benefits of Exercising with Friends

Exercising in a group environment offers benefits beyond those you get from working out individually. It provides you extra motivation, commitment and sociability that all contribute to you exercising at your full potential. Did you know that referring a friend to your LA Boxing gym can earn you rewards at participating locations? We offer a free month at LA Boxing, a free personal training session and discounts on memberships and merchandise.

MOTIVATION

Those who exercise individually may stop a workout short when it gets too difficult. The other people you exercise with provide an excellent source for motivation to make sure this doesn’t happen. With an intense workout like boxing, your workout partners will support and push you to continue when you need it the most. As you and your exercise partner are both working out, you might begin to compete in the workout, putting in more of an effort to keep up with or surpass your friend.

COMMITMENT

It is often easier to skip a day of exercising when you are only relying on yourself to get yourself to the gym. When you are working out with friends, you are both dependent on each other to go to the gym. This adds a sense of accountability now that your exercise partners expect you to show up during the scheduled workout. This commitment and accountability will maximize your workout each time you visit the gym.

SOCIAL INTERACTION

Another major benefit commonly overlooked when having an exercise partner is the social experience it brings. Some individuals may work in an environment with limited amount of social interaction and time for proper exercise. By exercising with friend, both of these needs can be met simultaneously. Exercising with a friend provides social benefits that makes the exercise more interesting than working out individually.

Zab Judah and LA Boxing; An impressive win over Vernon Paris

Last night, Zab Judah, demonstrated his skills, maturity and outright domination vs. Vernon Paris on NBC Sports. And for weeks leading up to the fight, there was little doubt that Judah was peaking at just the right time. It was obvious from the start that Judah was the sharper, stronger, quicker and more mature fighter, taking advantage of his south-paw strengths, with little to no answers from Paris. Judah was, indeed, in top form.

Round after round, Judah dominated the younger fighter with determination and focus until the ref called a stop to the fight awarding Judah a TKO in the ninth round along with his 42 professional victory.

For this fight, Zab Judah could have trained at just about any gym he wanted. So in January, when his camp walked into LA Boxing North Las Vegas to train for his fight against Vernon Paris, we welcomed him with open arms.

For the staff and approximately 700 members of LA Boxing North Las Vegas, it would have been just another day at the gym – with pro fighters training right alongside of every day folks – except, this time, it was different. For eight weeks leading up to the fight, when Judah was around, the gym was electric, vibrant, powerful and it was serious. His preparation was on full display on Saturday night in front of his Brooklyn, NY home crowd.

“I like to train in an environment where people are. I like to make myself realistic – like people can reach out and touch me. What’s to be shy about,” said Judah. “Zab’s camp was full-on. They were at the gym constantly in preparation for last night’s fight,” says Anthony Geisler, president of LA Boxing Franchise Corporation. “It wasn’t until the NBC Sports cameras came to film that we noticed anything different – that is, other than the five-time world champ training in the ring,” he said.

LA Boxing® Knocks Out Franchise Agreement in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (March 19, 2012) – LA Boxing®, the world’s largest boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts (MMA) fitness franchise, announced today that it has signed a franchise agreement with local entrepreneur Mike Durso and his business partners to open Pennsylvania’s first LA Boxing gym in Philadelphia. Planned to open in fall 2012, the new LA Boxing will be the first of more than 10 locations the company plans to open in the market within the next 18 to 24 months.

“LA Boxing is the perfect fit for our lifestyle and professional goals,” said Durso. “We’ve been huge fans of boxing for years and were looking for a way to turn our passion into a business.
