Combat at the Capitale 24: DC Fighters Ready for NYC

Written by Hit-Girl

On Friday, September 16, 2011, four fighters from the LA Boxing Arlington Fight Team, led by trainer Jerome Wilson, will be representing DC-Maryland-Virginia (DMV) at Combat at the Capitale 24. Presented by Louis Neglia and Ray Longo, Combat at the Capitale is a long running, kickboxing-only fight night series in New York City. The fight card will feature Muay Thai and Low-Kick fights (punches, kicks above the waist, and kicks to the legs are allowed).

Just a few months ago Katie Jaworski competed in #23 where she went toe-to-toe against Jennie Nedell (Team Fusion). Jaworski lost by decision, but she had a great fight against a Combat at the Capitale veteran.  She is ready to return to New York City to see if she can claim a victory. This time, she will be joined by three other fighters. “The Rage” Clinso BrumfieldMike Parker, and Stacy Sneeringer were on the original fight card, but due to a fractured rib, Sneeringer had to withdraw. Jennifer Yang will be taking her place and making her kickboxing fight debut.

Here is the match-up for their fights:

“Iron” Mike Fischetti (Team Tiger Schulmann) vs. Brumfield – This is the main event. Brumfield, International Kickboxing Federation (IKF) World Welterweight Champion 2008-2010, will face off against the current title holder, Fischetti, for the New York State Muay Thai Championship Title (170-175 pounds). While Brumfield is longer and leaner, Fischetti proved last time that a height difference makes no difference to his ability to knock out his opponent.

James “B-52” Smith (B52 Muay Thai) vs Mike Parker – This is one of two professional Muay Thai fights on the fight card.  Smith made his professional debut at Combat at the Capitale several years ago, and he is the former World Kickboxing Association (WKA) Amateur Heavyweight Champion and WKA Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion. Parker will be making is professional debut at this event.

Andrea De Angelo (Neglia Comp Team) vs Jaworski – At the last Combat at the Capitale De Angelo beat Olga Khanukaeva (Borodin’s Gym) by unanimous decision. Rumor has it that De Angelo called out Jaworski during #23. De Angelo is a smaller fighter than Jaworski. While Jaworski will have to work to meet weight, she will have a height advantage over De Angelo.  Since this match-up was already in the works from June, Jaworski has been working hard these past few months to improve her fight game.

Jennie Nedell  (Team Fusion) vs Yang – Nedell beat Jaworski in June. Yang accepted the challenge to fight Nedell. But given the late notice, she will have a grueling three weeks of training ahead of her if she wants to hold her own against a fighter with over 30 fights and several titles. This will be a tough fight for Yang.

Combat at the Capitale 24 will be held at 130 Bowery, New York, NY. Doors open at 7PM, and fights start at 8PM. Tickets are: $100 VIP Ringside (row 1), $75 VIP Ringside (rows 2-4), $55 Ringside (rows 5-9), $35 General Admission (standing room).  Send an email to hitgirlmma@gmail.com to get tickets. Fights will be videotaped live and posted online for “video on demand” immediately after the fight at www.mmasportsnet.com.
