Shawn Jordan Set For Strikeforce Challengers 17

by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Jul 20, 2011 at 1:55 pm ET

An undisclosed injury has forced Lavar Johnson (15-4 MMA, 3-1 SF) out of Friday’s Strikeforce Challengers 17 event, officials today announced.

In his place steps Bellator vet Shawn Jordan (10-2 MMA, 0-0 SF), who meets fellow light heavyweight Devin Cole (18-9-1 MMA, 0-1 SF) in a main-card bout.

Strikeforce Challengers 17 takes place at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The night’s main card airs on Showtime.

Despite the change, Cole vs. Jordan maintains its spot on the broadcast.

Jordan, a four-time Bellator fighter, makes his Strikeforce debut with seven wins in his past eights (five of which came via knockout). Jordan, a former fullback on the LSU football team, made his pro debut in 2009.

Cole, meanwhile, looks to end a two-fight skid that followed a career-best seven-fight undefeated streak. Following a decision loss to Aaron Rosa at Shark Fights 13, he signed with Strikeforce and suffered a decision defeat to Daniel Cormier in his promotional debut.

The latest Strikeforce Challengers 17 card now includes:

MAIN CARD

  • Roger Bowling vs. Bobby Voelker
  • Devin Cole vs. Shawn Jordan
  • Joe Cason vs. Ovince St-Preux
  • Liz Carmouche vs. Sarah Kaufman
  • Adlan Amagov vs. Ron Stallings

PRELIMINARY CARD

  • T.J. Cook vs. Lionel Lanham
  • Ben Lagman vs. Anthony Smith
  • Bill Cooper vs. Maka Watson
  • Sterling Ford vs. Brian McLaughlin

Former LSU fullback Shawn Jordan meets John Hill at Bellator 45

by Dann Stupp on May 17, 2011 at 9:00 am ET

Former LSU fullback and rising heavyweight contender Shawn Jordan (9-2 MMA, 2-1 BFC) meets John Hill (3-1 MMA, 0-0 BFC) at Bellator 45.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed the bout with event sources.

Bellator 45 takes place this Saturday, May 21, at L’Auberge du Lac Casino Resort in Lake Charles, La., and the night’s main card airs on MTV2. Jordan vs. Hill is expected to be a featured preliminary-card fight.

Bellator 45 is the organization’s final season-four event. The show features the featherweight and light-heavyweight tournament finales. Other fighters, such as Jordan and Hill, likely are jockeying for spots on Bellator’s “Summer Series” and season-five events (beginning in September).

Jordan, who spent four years with LSU on special teams and as a back-up fullback, graduated from the NCAA powerhouse in 2007. He launched his pro MMA career two years later with Bellator, where he submitted Jayme Mckinney in his promotional debut at Bellator 9. He won nine of his first 10 fights (all but two via first-round stoppage). However, in his most recent fight, he suffered a knockout loss to Mark Holata (11-2) at Bellator 31.

Hill, a three-year pro, makes his Bellator debut following a recent KOTC fight, in which he knocked out John Orr in just 29 seconds. In fact, none of his wins has lasted more than 53 seconds. Coincidentally, his only career loss came to Holata, who defeated Jordan a year later.
